Reactivated in 1991 following the reunification of Germany, Jagdgeschwader 73, ‘Steinhoff’ was an unusual mixture of predominantly East German MiG Fighters, and West German F-4 Phantoms. A Notable exception was the few examples of the Brand new Su-27SK’s the Soviets had exported to the East German’s before the fall of the wall in 1989. Upgraded in 1993 along with the MiG-29’s to NATO Standards. Today the DeutscheFlanker continues to operate alongside the rest of JG 73 out of Laage Airport, in northern Germany, performing Air Policing duties along the Baltic Sea
